The appropriate length for your skirt or dress hemline will depend on three things:
- Your workplace: more conservative/traditional offices demand longer hemlines; if you work at a law firm, in management consulting, financial services, etc., keep yours at or below the knee
- Your height: if you are a petite woman, wear your hemline a bit on the higher side, to help your legs look longer; opt for a hemline that falls at or above the kneecap
- Your age: if you’ve already celebrated your 30th birthday, then go for the more age-appropriate longer hemline (at or just below the knee)
When in doubt, cut your hemline to mid-knee.
Whatever you decide, don’t forget to sit down in your skirt before committing to a hemline length. You want to make sure you will feel comfortable and confident throughout the day.
